Did you know that there’s a hip hop dance class available every day in the Bay Area? EVERYDAY.
I knew this was roughly true in my head because I’ve taken enough classes to know if one teacher cancels a class I can switch to another and not sit in my car stuffing powdered donuts in my face.
Ok. So donuts. I mean dance. You’re writing about dance Elaine. Focus.
I work at an office and thus everything is very professional. But ya know. You take a break, you Youtube “Beyonce dance videos” and then this amazingness pops up:
Another regular search I do in Youtube is “french dudes in heels.” That ALWAYS returns fantastic things.
These videos are so inspiring. They make me want to get in my car and find the nearest class that can teach me how to hit the mark hard.
So, if you’ve woken up today and thought “hey where can I take a class today” you’re in luck.
I’ve documented it all here so we collectively can see our options.
So dance every day = monster burrito every day. That’s just simple math.
I’ve taken classes from everyone on this list (except for 2 1) so I can vouch for their awesomeness. I have not had the pleasure of taking a class with Jocquese or Gino. But after watching Jocquese’s choreo and Gino’s choreo I’m adding them to my TO DO list for this year.
(Took Gino’s class on 1/14/2014 and can absolutely confirm. his class is amazing)
Update 1/24/2014 – I took Glory’s Hip Hop/Reggae Grooves and it was amazing. So I added it here so you can realize her awesomeness too. She co-teaches the class with Bibi Khalili. Sometimes they teach together. Sometimes it’s just Glory. Sometimes it’s just Bibi. It’s all good.
Check the teacher’s individual schedules as things change.
Sometimes they cancel classes. Sometimes MUNI shuts down and they can’t get to class on time. Sometimes they don’t come cause they’re experiencing drama. It happens. It’s sad. But the Bay Area is a beautiful place and there’s another teacher who will gladly teach you how to drop it, smack it, and whack it.
And depending on when you’ve found this page, the chance of things changing goes up alot. What Iv’e detailed below is what I know in January 2014. Things change. So double check my work please.
Become FB or Twitter friends with the teachers.Â
No, it’s not to stalk them. Although it is nice to see their feeds and all their beautiful friends. Seriously, there are no ugly dancers. Everyone is so goddamn beautiful in this community.
I have two logical reasons why I recommend you do this:
1) The teacher’s post updates about their classes. This reminds me I really should stop watching HIMYM Season 4 for the 20th time and go take a class. Having their updates show up in your feeds helps you not be so lazy.
2) Social media is sometimes the quickest way to find out if a class is going to be canceled. I’ve noticed that most of the teachers will update their FB and Twitter about canceled classes. Sometimes that news NEVER reaches the dance studio’s websites.
